FTP and SFTP

Register a server, connect to it, edit files in place and copy between a server and your disk.

Register a site

Set a panel to FTP (Alt+F1 or Alt+F2). The panel opens on your sites.

Press F7, or New site, and fill in:

  • the protocol: SFTP, FTP over TLS, or plain FTP;
  • the server's address and your user name;
  • a password, or for SFTP a private key file.

F4 changes the site under the cursor and F8 removes it.

Connect

Press Enter on a site. From there the panel is a file list with the same keys as a folder on your disk.

.. at the site's top folder, or the button beside the location menu, goes back to the list of sites.

Work with remote files

  • F3 and F4 open a file from the server. Saving writes it back.
  • F5 and F6 copy and move to and from the other panel: your disk, or another site.
  • Set the other panel to Preview to see what the cursor is on.

Deleting on a server is for good: a server has no recycle bin.

How passwords are kept

Passwords are stored encrypted for your Windows account. They stay in the part of the app that makes the connection and are never handed to the window that draws the interface.

Server keys (SFTP)

The first time you connect to an SFTP server, its key is remembered. If the server later shows a different key, the connection is refused: that is what an impostor would look like. If you know the server was reinstalled, tell the site to forget the old key and connect again.
