Questions and answers
Is Panora Navigator free?
Yes. The basic version of Panora Navigator is free to download and use.
Which systems does it run on?
Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. A Linux version is in the works.
What is the difference between the installer and the portable version?
The installer puts the app into a folder you choose and adds it to the Start menu. The portable version is a single .exe that runs from wherever you keep it, without installing anything.
If you turn on Start with the system in the portable version, do not move the file afterwards: Windows starts it from where it was. If you do move it, turn the switch off and on again.
Can I work with the keyboard only?
Yes. The file panels follow Far Manager: F3 opens a file, F4 edits it, F5 copies, F6 moves, F7 makes a folder, F8 deletes, Tab goes to the other panel and Alt+F1 / Alt+F2 choose what the left and right panels show. The keys of the active panel are listed in the bar along the bottom, where they can be clicked too. See Keyboard shortcuts.
I copied files in Windows Explorer. Why can I not paste them in Panora Navigator?
The file clipboard is the app's own, not the system one: Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V work between the panels of Panora Navigator, and files copied in Explorer are not seen there. To bring files in from elsewhere, open their folder in one of the panels and copy with F5, or drag them from one panel to the other.
Where do deleted files go?
On a local disk, F8 and Delete send files to the Windows recycle bin. On an FTP or SFTP server and inside a secure storage there is no recycle bin: deleting there is for good.
Which files can be opened in the built-in editors?
Text and source code with syntax highlighting, Markdown and .docx, JSON, XML, CSV and .xlsx, PDF, images (editing, metadata and steganography), log files, and the healthcare and EDI formats HL7, X12, EDIFACT and DICOM. Anything else opens in the text editor. See Editors and viewers.
How are my FTP and SFTP passwords kept?
They are stored encrypted for your Windows account, and are never handed to the window that draws the interface. An SFTP server's key is remembered the first time you connect; if the server later shows a different key, the connection is refused until you tell the site to forget the old one.
I forgot the password of a secure storage. Can it be recovered?
No. A secure storage is a file sealed with AES-256-GCM under a random key that only your password unwraps. Names, sizes and contents are all inside it, and there is no back door: a forgotten password cannot be got back.
Can I change how the app looks?
Yes. Panora Navigator comes with light and dark themes, including a Far Manager look. Choose one in Settings, where you can also make your own theme from any of them and edit its colours, fonts and corner radii with a live preview.
